Last month, a 17-year-old girl from Pennsylvania didn’t have a date to her senior prom. She didn’t want to be dateless, however, so she came up with the next best thing: Danny DeVito. Sort of. She took a cardboard cut-out of the hilarious actor and it quickly went viral. When asked why she chose DeVito and she responded:
“It seemed like all the good guys were taken, and all the ones that weren’t taken I wasn’t really interested in, until one day I had this idea… what if I just brought a cardboard cutout of Danny DeVito to prom? I have always loved Danny. Danny was the life of the party, everybody loved him.”
To be fair, she has a really valid point. Who doesn’t love Danny DeVito? He’s been fantastic in everything he’s ever done and at times has even salvaged entire projects due to his charm and humor. So far, it all makes sense.
It looks like they had a great time! The story and photos started getting spread around the ol’ Interwebs and before she could even say “Matilda!” the photos of her with the DeVito cut-out hit the set of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia set.
Now, DeVito could’ve laughed it off and left it at that, but that wouldn’t be living up to his epic reputation, so he decided to return the favor and got a cardboard cut-out made of Allison and took her to Frank Reynold’s favorite place, Paddy’s Pub.
DeVito’s castmate Rob McElhenney, who plays Mac on Sunny, posted both photos on his Instagram. So far, the post has more than 50,000 likes in just a few days. Fans of the FX show are hoping the two can meet, but most of the show is actually filmed in L.A. but they have shot on location in Philly over the course of their 12 seasons, so you never know.
When Allison saw that DeVito replicated her gesture, she took to Twitter to say: “I AM SHOOKETH,” then thanked the cast for the love: “Thank you SO, SO Much @RMcElhenney and @DannyDeVito for fulfilling my dream of visiting Paddy’s Pub from @alwayssunny !!”
