Last month, we told you about a Scottish rehab facility had opened a wing of their hospital to treat people addicted to cryptocurrency. For those who can’t fathom that people have become addicted to the mining and trading of cryptocurrency, it seems that acquiring Bitcoin and any of its competitors will drive people to do some pretty outlandish things.
By this point, you have to at least be somewhat familiar with cryptocurrency. In the last year, it seems to have really taken off and Castle Craig Hospital – the one that is now treating crypto-addicts – puts the estimate at 13 million people mining and trading Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Dash and the like.
But how far some people will go to get cryptocurrency is finally being unearthed. These men weren’t manipulating the pricing or mining of Ether, the term used for the currency Ethereum mines and distributes. No, these guys did it the old-fashioned way – by kidnapping and robbing a cyber-millionaire.
According to the New York Daily News, Cesar Guzman, Allan Nunez, and Darrell Colon joined Louis Meza to lure the cyber-millionaire victim into a minivan posing as an Uber back in November. Meza was arrested and charged as the ringleader in December. The other three, however, were just charged in a Manhattan court for their participation in the crime.
