Although Red got to the mountain in time, he struggled in his first two runs.
The teen, who was looking to defend Team USA’s gold at the inaugural event in Sochi, botched his first run.
During his second, it appeared Red tweaked his back, which led the commentators to question if he’d be 100-percent for the third and final run.
Red nailed it with an 87.16 to put him ahead of the two favorites, Canada’s Mark McMorris and Max Parrot.
Red’s gold medal was the USA’s first in the Pyeongchang Games and he became the youngest snowboarder to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.

There was a slight damper to the party, depending on how you look at it. When the 17-year-old found out he was taking home the gold, he let out a “Holy…” followed by a four-letter word you aren’t supposed to say on television.
Even though the event was aired on delay, NBC still couldn’t manage to edit the expletive out of its broadcast.
