So why would someone ask a cartoon author instead of a mental health professional for help fighting depression? @chojuroh’s answer is simple: “I asked Dan Harmon because I wanted advice from someone who suffers, but is not a professional”.
According to Dan, the first step to dealing with depression is admitting that you’re struggling with it. Although this seems simple, it can be difficult for lots of people.
Dan also encourages @chojuroh, and anyone else dealing with depression, to examine and understand their feelings.
Although Dan probably has a very busy schedule, it’s awesome to see him taking time out of his day to help people in need.
@Chojuroh was incredible thankful for Dan’s advice and said, “This is the most basic, general advice I’ve been given so far, and it’s great. I participate in 4 separate therapies, and treating depression is the least of my worries. I know what works for me, but I knew it would help others for someone in the public eye to say something. Letting out your pain can do a lot of good in the long run, even if you don’t feel better right away.”
This story just goes to show that it’s always important to reach out for help when you need it, and sometimes the greatest advice comes from the most unlikely source.
