If you’re going to get your children into sports, regardless of which one they choose to participate in, it’s best to start them early. There’s a saying that everyone’s heard before that goes, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Well, most of the time, the same goes for humans.
Martial arts are fantastic to teach children for a multitude of reasons:
- Number One – It teaches them to defend themselves early. The confidence it can give them is key, especially if they run into any bullies on the playground.
- Number Two – Martial arts is a great way to learn discipline. Being able to handle yourself physically is great, but you can’t just go around beating people up because you know how. You need to know when it’s necessary and when it isn’t.
- Number Three – It’s a great way for young people to stay active. With our sedentary lifestyles, getting up and exercising is needed for kids. Sitting around eating Hot Pockets and playing video games may be fun, but it isn’t healthy!
Sometimes, as kids learn martial arts and get tougher, they also get a little ego. It may be necessary to show them that everything isn’t fun and games…even if what you’re doing is fun!
